A real documentation project runs on someone else’s schedule: you have to reach a subject-matter expert, get access to the product, draft, get technical review back, revise, and test. Any one of those steps can sit idle for a week waiting on a person who does not work for you. Compressed into a five-week term, a single slow reviewer can consume the project. Programs that understand this keep the capstone at standard length even when other courses are shortened – ask whether yours does.
The distinguishing feature of accelerated technical communication coursework is that the quality ceiling moves with the calendar. Reading and analysis take roughly the time you budget. Getting a procedure to actually work when tested, or learning a structured authoring tool well enough to build reusable content in it, does not. In a 15-week semester an unexpectedly hard week is absorbed. In a 6-week term it costs you a deliverable, and in this field the deliverable may have been a portfolio piece.
