A 60-credit licensure-track master’s at a lower rate can cost more overall than a 48-credit program at a higher rate. Ask each school to confirm total required credits in writing alongside the rate, and confirm whether that credit count is the licensure-eligible version of the program.
Finishing coursework faster through an accelerated format does not usually reduce the tuition rate, but it can shorten how long you are enrolled and reduce exposure to tuition increases in later terms. Weigh that against the risk of needing to repeat a compressed course, and against fieldwork hours that will not compress regardless of your course pace.
At the certificate and associate levels, total cost is lowest and the credential reached is a supervised-practice tier in states that offer one. At the bachelor’s level, roughly 120 credits gives transfer credit substantial room to work, and the resulting credential supports counseling work under supervision in many states.
