The degree does not make you a sworn detective and does not replace a crime-lab scientist credential. Chain of custody and tool validation are the parts that get cases thrown out; if a program never makes you write a report, pick a different one.

Is digital forensics accredited?
FEPAC accredits some forensic science programs; many digital-forensics degrees sit in a computing department and are not FEPAC-accredited. Institutional accreditation is the first check. Employer hiring often wants GCFA, GCFE, EnCE, or equivalent tool certifications on top of the degree.
