A BS in Cloud Computing builds the whole major around infrastructure, platform services, and operations. The advantage is depth and sequencing: the networking and systems courses are chosen specifically to support the cloud coursework that follows, and the capstone is usually a working deployment rather than a general software project. Several of these programs also embed certification preparation into the required courses, so you finish with both a transcript and a set of industry credentials.
The thing to verify is the foundations. A cloud degree that spends most of its credits inside one provider’s console produces graduates who know a control panel rather than the systems underneath it. Look for real networking, Linux, and scripting courses in the first two years.
An IT major delivers networking, systems administration, databases, and support practice, then offers cloud computing as a concentration or upper-division elective block. This is the most common route and a sensible default if you are not certain cloud is the specific corner of IT you want. The tradeoff is that the cloud coursework is a subset of the major rather than its center, so confirm the concentration is substantial enough to matter and that the courses are reliably taught online rather than listed in the catalog but only offered on campus.

A computer science major goes deeper into programming, algorithms, and software engineering, with cloud topics available as electives. This is the better route if you are aiming at platform engineering, site reliability engineering, or building the tooling that manages infrastructure – work that is classified as software development and is written in code rather than configured in a console. The tradeoff is typically less coverage of operations practice and network administration.
